Wine Bottle Sizes

Magnum, Jeroboam, Balthazar... These are wine bottle names!?!?  Hopefully this chart can help clear up some of the confusion around wine bottle sized and names.  As well as the traditional 750ml wine bottle (the size you normally find in supermarkets and wine shops), and the half-bottle (375ml), there are a number of large format wine bottles. Many of these are named after biblical kings. The most frustrating thing about wine bottle names may be the fact that the same name may be used to refer to different size bottles in different regions however. Here are the large format names and sizes.

Famous Quotes

" We hear of the conversion of water into wine at the marriage in Cana as of a miracle. But this conversion is, through the goodness of God, made every day before our eyes. Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards, and which incorporates itself with the grapes, to be changed into wine; a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy. "

- Benjamin Franklin
